WATER A GOOD THING FOR EVERYBODY
In a few days time the third world forum will come to an end at Kioto and in Florence will end the first forum.
C.E.F.A. has participated in both events .our hydro project in Kenya, Kathita Kiirua water project has in fact been selected to take part along with another 150 projects about water in various parts of the world. We accepted because we wanted to show that we as a international voluntary group and not a government one believe that it is every ones right to have water. The meaning of our project does not just stop with the construction of a water plant but takes into account the growth of an organizatory and governing spirit of the local community to work together to construct their own water plant and with this concept that water is good for everybody are constructing a civic experience.
In the same way and with the same material we have presented the forum in Florence.
C.E.F.A. wanted to put over the message that the right to have water for everybody is possible and this they did in both forums.
Apart from Kenya C.E.F.A. is also looking at the problem of water in Tanzania Somalia and in Morocco.
It's a question of projects socially integrated and having internally the element of water which represent an aspect in the sectors of forestry, the environment, agriculture, sanitation and more important still the importance to the whole of society.
Nobody can honestly say that a man or a woman has not got the right to have water. Its use and the way it is distributed must be based on solidarity, co-operation and the correct distribution among the population.
This conviction must suggest for every project co-operation must exist for the development of water whether in the south or the north of the world. THERE MUST BE THERE FOR
- MADE AVAILABLE THE AMOUNT OF WATER ON THE PLANET
It is necessary to make it available to everyone in accordance with the environment.
- TO MAKE THE COMMUNITY TAKE PART IN THE PROJECTING
Taking part and looking after the system when its been approved through the development of the process of democratic participation and discussions with experts helps them to decide and form their future.
- DEVELOP THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT OF LOOKING AFTER
Use the local technology
Somebody said that the next world war will be fought over the control of water springs. We work because water as it is such a vital element and a communal one is an opportunity to construct peace between people and nations.
In the following pages we have written the experiences of a friend who visited the project in Kiirua a month ago.
